Proven Winners plants undergo a thorough selection process, including trials in various locations worldwide, to ensure they are top performers, disease-resistant, and easy to grow.
We choose the PW Proven Winners plants that have a proven longer bloom season, unique color, dwarf size or greater cold tolerance to add to our selections at Melport Meadows.
Cowsmo Composted Manure has been the standard for quality for the last 20 years. It is approved for all organic production. We make the compost from dairy manure on a blacktop surface using the windrow system.
We monitor temperatures and turn the compost with a self-propelled compost turner. One it no longer is heating to 130 degrees we pile it on a finished pile where it sits for another couple months.
Our organic compost is made from manure rather than leaves and twigs. This gives the compost nutrients for crop growth unlike the leaf compost.
The compost is made on a blacktop surface which keeps sand and pests out of the compost. Compost made on dirt could get contaminated by jumping worms. Cowsmo compost has no smell and is relatively weed free.
